Although based on the ground-breaking architecture of the Genbo E-MTB series, the EX 900 Sport is a standalone model, manufactured entirely in Italy using unique motor and battery technology developed by Olympia. The EX 900 Sport may share the same chassis plan as the Genbo, but its heart is allnew. Its mid motor system has been manufactured exclusively by OLI sport for Olympia, providing seamless power delivery and 85Nm of torque up to 120rpm! While the PowerNine battery, also developed specifically for Olympia, provides an extraordinary 900Wh capacity for above-average runtimes in a compact and lightweight package for its power capacity. As proven in off-road motorcycle motocross, pairing a larger diameter front wheel with narrow tyre (29 x 2.6”), with a smaller diameter rear wheel with plus sized rear tyre (27.5 x 2.8”), and balancing suspension travel & geometry to suit (150 mm rear & 160 mm front), Olympia have created a bicycle that not only corners with ‘on-rails’ precision, rear traction and impact absorption are greatly increased due to the monster rear tyre, a combination dictated by the advent of higher power & torque pedal assist systems, which can over power grip on loose terrain. The adjustable rear end can be configured to achieve optimum suspension geometry, grip and handling whatever the terrain, and even positioned accept a 29” rear wheel matching the front diameter & tyre size if you wish. Olympia were so impressed by the performance of the radical new wheel size combination and suspension travel spec of the Genbo E-MTB, that they wanted to offer a very similar system to an even wider audience at a more competitive price point. I give you the EX 900 Sport. This may be a new concept to bicycles, although it’s a wheel, tyre & suspension combination proven over decades in off-road motorcycle motocross. Before the advent of pedal assist and the increased power and torque provided by advanced motors and batteries, these were not issues to consider, although as E-MTB’s have evolved to offer near motorcycle levels of torque and performance the same solutions apply. Furthermore, the rider can adjust the rear suspension to dial-in their optimum geometry, or configure the rear end to accept a 29” rear wheel matching the front diameter & tyre size. The EX 900 Sport is by no means a diluted dulled down version of the Genbo, although designed to offer as much bang for the buck as possible, the EX 900 Sport has been developed from the ground up, using a unique Olympia mid motor and internal battery system to hit the price target, which required huge upfront cost, especially when manufactured entirely in Italy. The latest technology 21700 LG lithium cells are used to ensures the best possible footprint to output energy ratio, offering 900Wh in virtually the same space as commonly used integrated batteries with a fraction of the output. Not only will Olympia’s PowerNine battery take you further, it can be fully charged from flat using the 4Ah charger in under 6 hours. The large volume air shock attached to the top-tube provides a low standover height & optimal rising rate suspension geometry, highly sensitive through its initial travel with a progressive compression curve towards the end of the stroke. Full internal routing maintains the sleek and stylish aesthetic, allowing height dropper remote cables etc. to be hidden from view (and mud), alongside gear cables and brake hoses etc. An adjustable chain control device and replaceable mech. hanger, thru-axle inserts & seatpost clamp ensure serviceability and longevity.
